Family Day is nearly here and it’s one of our favourite days of the year to plan! We wake up early, find the best free festivals and events and hit the road with our boys to find adventure. We’ve wrapped up the highlights, sharing the best things to do on Family Day in Edmonton - so you can plan a magical day out with the kids too!
Free Admission to Edmonton Family-Friendly Attractions
First up, Free Admission to Royal Alberta Museum. Get your hands on advance-timed entry or show up for admission to the museum, at no charge. It’s a fun way to start the day, or warm up indoors between outdoor activities. Free admission is available open to close.
Get Free admission to Rutherford House. Explore this elegant historic house, join in historical games with the costumed interpreters, sample a treat made in the historic kitchen, and make an old-fashioned craft.
Get Free admission to Art Gallery of Alberta. There’s a brand new LEGO Exhibit your kids will enjoy, and it’s a great time to check out the rotating children’s gallery, if it’s been a while since your last visit.
Hit the Lake and Try Ice Fishing because it’s Alberta Free Fishing Weekend and you can hit the lake at no cost with the family, this weekend only!
Free Edmonton Family Day Events and Festivals
Free Family Day Festival at Edmonton Garrison. The Edmonton Garrison Family Day Celebration. There will be inflatables and other fun attractions for the whole family.
Spend Family Day at Strathcona Museum and Archives. Design your own Tartan and explore the museum at Family Day at Strathcona Museum and Archives. Admission is free, and a fun way to find family fun indoors.
Catch Fireworks at Meadowlark Community League Family Day Festival.
Try Curling at the Family Fun Day Extravaganza. At the festival you can enjoy Skating, Curling, children’s Snowshoeing (gear provided), Outdoor Fires with Hot Chocolate and Chili (including a vegetarian option) with buns.
Spend Family Day in the Park with Glastonbury Community League.
Bundle up for the St. Albert Fire & Ice Festival.
See Movies for FREE at Leduc Cinemas. Catch Migration, Kung Fu Panda 4, and Shrek on the big screen at Leduc Cinemas for Family Day.
Catch a Magic Show Performance at the Family Day Festival in Beaumont.
Find a New Toy at the Family Day Toy Swap at ReUse Centre

Spend Family Day in the Arts District On Monday, February 17, 2025, from 12 – 5 pm, join the Edmonton Arts Council, City of Edmonton, the Citadel Theatre, Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton Public Library and more, to participate in a variety of family-friendly programming. Fun includes live reggae music with Saint and the Full 100 Band at City Hall, interactive performances full of magic and fun with Demmi’s Magic Ballon Show, Jojo’s Magic Circus and Spandy Andy at the Art Gallery of Alberta, family-friendly movies at the Edmonton Public Library and the Zeidler Theatre (Citadel Theatre), a musical adaptation of Rapunzel and a hoop dancing performance with Lakota Tootoosis at the Citadel Theatre, and more!
Drop in FREE Family day Swim at Harbour Pool. Celebrate Family Day with us at Harbour Pool! Bring your loved ones and dive into a day of fun, relaxation, and making memories. Admission is FREE, so it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy some quality family time!
Skate with Ben Scrivens. Get outside and skate with Ben Scrivens, play games on the ice and warm up with hot cocoa and roasted marshmallows. Catch a screening of The Mighty Ducks indoors when you’re finished skating.
Family Day in Devon. Get outside and bundle up for family day fun because between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. you can try snowshoeing, snow painting, orienteering, storytelling, hot chocolate, marshmallow and candy necklace activities! Visit Devon Lions Campground for the Family Day Fun.
