7 Best Kid-friendly Things to do on Your Next Calgary Road Trip

Quantum sandbox at Telus Spark - Things to do in Calgary with Kids

Whether you’re hopping in the car for a quick day trip, or you’re hitting the road for a weekend in Calgary - we’ve got you covered. We’ve got the skinny on the best things to do in Calgary with kids on your next road trip.

Here are the best things to do in Calgary with kids:

Quantum Sandbox, Birdly and the Brainasium Playground at Telus Spark

Explore the newest exhibit at Telus Spark. Quantum Playground is an immersive, digital art exhibit that you can engage and connect with. The exhibit explores the relationship between indigenous culture and science, and is one heck of an experience. Your kids are going to love it - and so are you. Finish up there, and head over to the Birdly VR, where you can fly through prehistoric times on a three-minute VR ride. Finish up with the exhibits indoors, and then head outside to the Brainasium Playground.

Tip: Telus World of Science annual passholders can use the passes for admission to Telus Spark. Not a member yet? Buy your pass in Edmonton, it’s $70 less expensive for the year.

Try Flying - Yes, Flying! at I-Fly

Experience the sensation of flying in our state-of-the-art vertical wind tunnels. Safe for all ages, experience levels and abilities, indoor sky diving at iFLY is a family-friendly activity perfect for kids. Kids as young as three can take to the wind, in the controlled environment, that’s worth the splurge.

Tip: book your visit in advance to save!

Raft Down the Bow with Paddlestation

Head to the river and spend two to three hours rafting down the bow! Find a local rental company, like Paddlestation, and get everything you need to raft down the bow! Don’t forget to arrange transportation for the end of the trip. We waited while one of the adults took an Uber back to the vehicle. The ending point for Paddlestation was a great sandy area where the kids ate lunch and played in the water!

Coast Down a Track at Winsport

One of the iconic summer experiences in Calgary for our kids, is coasting down a ski-hill in a go-kart at Winsport. Easy enough for young children to do (accompanied by an adult) or for older kids to race down themselves, you’ll take a ski lift up the hill and coast (or speed) down the hill on the go-kart.

Tip: You’re going to want to go more than once, buy the three pack in advance!

Cool off at The Rec Room

Cool off indoors at The Rec Room. It’s a fun space to explore, and you can spot games that are different than the selection that we have here in Edmonton. The Rec Room in Calgary is one of our kids favourite locations!

Visit Calgary Zoo

Can you really visit Calgary without a visit to the Zoo? It’s one of our must-see things to do in Calgary with kids, and is a great place to kick off a morning, or end an afternoon. Don’t skip the penguin walk, and check for special programming via the zoo website, at the time you plan on visiting.

Tip: If you plan on visiting more than twice a year, splurge for the annual membership. It pays for itself after just two visits!
