Kick off the weekend early with a drop-in event at your local Chapters Indigo Store for winter break.

Friday

• Freeze the Day Drop in. Explore the Schoolhouse!
  Drop by the Little White School over the Holiday Season Break! Experience the free winter break fun in Edmonton January 2 + 3 from 10 am - 2 pm. Enjoy complimentary warm beverages!

• Friday Night Ice Grooves at Churchill Square
  Winter City Weekends are returning to City Hall Plaza! With the arrival of frostier temperatures, the Edmonton Arts Council is welcoming back Ice Grooves, Swing n’ Skate and free skate rentals. Bring your cool moves to City Hall Plaza Ice Grooves! Skate and dance along to live DJs every Friday and Saturday night from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

• Paint your way into Winter Break
  Enjoy free Indigo winter break events during January 2 - 5, 2025. Calling all little artists! Bring your fave animals to life with our rainbow of mess-free paint colours. Plus, stay for storytime.

• Try a New Game at Chapters Indigo
  Enjoy free Indigo winter break events during January 2 - 5, 2025. Try out your fave games—from Connetix to Ravensburger, and more—and find your next great game. Plus, stay for storytime.

• On the First Friday of the Month Telus World of Science is OPEN LATE
  Celebrate the first Friday of the month because Telus World of Science is OPEN LATE! This is such a fun way to explore the science center with the kids, after work and school, to kick off the weekend. You can enjoy the full exhibits until 9pm!
  

Saturday

• Free LEARN TO SKATE at City Hall
  Lace up your skates (free rentals are available) at City Hall during Drop-in learn to skate in Edmonton. Want to gain some confidence on the ice? Join the Edmonton Arts Council for free drop-in learn skating lessons. Free skate rentals are available between 12:00 and 9:00, on Saturday and 12:00 and 5:00 pm on Sunday.

• Try Stand up Paddleboarding - in the Pool
  Stand up Paddleboarding is one of our favourite summer activities with our kids, and there’s a twinge of sadness when the boards get put away for the season. Now, we can extend the season and kick off a fun. family-friendly older drop-in water activity with the launch of weekly drop-in SUP at Kinsmen Leisure Centre in Edmonton.

• Bundle up and head outside to Check out the slide at Legacy Park in Fort Saskatchewan. Grab your kids, sleds and find magic in the park! You’ll find a massive snow slide in the park for your winter weekend adventure. Plus, you can run through the natural playground and small forest!Find Legacy Park at 100 Avenue and 101 Street in Fort Saskatchewan.

• Try Curling at Granite Curling Club in Edmonton
  Join us for a fun afternoon of curling! No prior experience required. Learn to curl and safety tips provided. Wear CLEAN indoor footwear, stretchy pants and warm non-shedding clothing. Helmets required for ages 12 and under. Pre-register to ensure your place.

• Visit Mastermind Toys for a LEGO Scavenger Hunt
  Join Mastermind Toys for a LEGO® Minifigure Scavenger Hunt where kids will embark on a thrilling quest to find hidden LEGO® minifigures scattered around the store. With clues along the way, participants will use their detective skills to track down each unique minifigure. Every child who completes the scavenger hunt will earn a special prize to celebrate their success!

Sunday

• Find the inflatables in the pool at Eastglen Leisure Centre
  Come join in for one last swim on the Inflatables at Eastglen on Sunday, January 5 from 10:30AM - 3:00PM. It’s your last chance to swim before the closure for the month. Tire out the kids with a fun climbing swim in the inflatable obstacle course in the pool. The fun climbing is included with regular admission to the leisure centre.

• Try Curling for FREE
  ​This was so popular we brought it back...This is your chance to TRY CURLING! We’re hosting an OPEN HOUSE where you can learn the basics. We’ll provide everything, equipment, dedicated instructors, and perfectly pebbled ice.

• Swing & Skate at City Hall
  Swing​‘n Skate will be back at City Hall on Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00 pm throughout January and February. Show off your best moves to some swing, big band, soca, salsa and more inside Edmonton City Hall. If you’d rather be outdoors, the music will be broadcast directly outside for ice skaters at City Hall Plaza.
