Canadian Tire Magic of Lights 2021 is OPEN for the Season

The Magic of Lights is 2.5 kilometers of festive and vibrant LED-lighted displays celebrating the joy of the holidays. An enchanted “drive-through” experience from the comfort of your own car. At every turn, and in every direction, the magical route is overflowing with spectacular light displays and animations.

The Magic of Lights at Castrol Raceway opens this weekend and we’re here for it! Magic of lights, or the coolest place to drive through and experience Christmas lights near Edmonton, is a new family tradition in our house. We get a thermos of hot cocoa, treats, set the radio to tune in with the Christmas lights displays and kick off the holiday seasons with a magical lights displays.

Canadian Tire’s Magic of Lights spans 2.5 km, and uses more than a million lights! Watch out for displays like, ‘The Night Before Christmas’ and ‘Ornament Alley’ and the iconic ‘Tunnel of Lights’. The Magic of Light opens this weekend, at Castrol Raceway (November 19, 2021) at the Rad Torque Raceway, daily between 5-10PM.

Here’s what you should know before you go:

  • Keep pace with the vehicle in front of you, you will be traveling at apx 5 kms per hour; In the interest of safety, please do not exceed 10 kms/hour at any time. At this speed, you’ll spend an average of twenty to thirty minutes enjoying the magic!

  • Turn your headlamps down to the lowest possible setting; The darker it is the more dynamic the displays; please don’t forget to turn your headlamps back on before return to the roads.

  • Tune your radio to 88.7 FM to enjoy merry melodies provided by 96.3 The Breeze.

  • For a slower experience (lesser wait times!) plan you visit Monday through Thursday, or early (5:00 pm-6: 30 pm) - hello, early bedtime friendly - or after 9:30 pm on the weekends.

  • Come as a group! Fill up the car with family (under eight people) and wear your pajamas for a jolly party in your car this holiday season!

  • Flex passes can be scanned from your phone, to avoid having to print the tickets.

  • Check your calendar before you go. On occasion, the Magic of Lights is closed for private events, and you want to make sure the Christmas magic is available before you leave your home!

  • Washrooms are available on-site, before, or after the Magical route, but not during.

  • Raid your pantry, or grab a couple of items for the food bank or toy section before visiting! Donations to the Edmonton Food Bank and/or Santas Anonymous graciously accepted.

Tickets start at $30 for the Canadian Tire: Magic of Lights. To skip the general admission line to buy tickets, tickets can be purchased in advance, online, here. If you’re visiting with little kids, who have less patience, we recommend the Dash Pass option. The dash pass includes admission through the ‘dash pass’ lane, to access the lights even quicker.

Tickets are available online, in advance, or at the gate for purchase, but we recommend booking in advance for the experience.
