Here’s Everything You Can do at Silver Skate Festival with Your Kids - February 9-19, 2024

Silver Skate Festival Society is back for 2024 to provide a free family-oriented winter celebration blending sport, recreation, arts and culture, showcasing various skating disciplines and promoting outdoor activities in Alberta.

Kid-friendly Activities at Silver Skate Festival

  • Snow Building Zone! You can play with pre-made snow blocks here and create something magical. In the family fun zone, you’ll also find snow mounds, where you can craft them into your own artistic vision.

  • Try a new sport: disc golf, broomball, curling and ball hockey - it’s a great time to try a new sport! The recreation zone is open daily, learn more here.

  • Slide down a winter slide - you’re not going to want to miss this slide experience!

  • Watch snow sculptures being carved! Through the first three days of the festival, you can watch snow sculptures being carved - this is a really cool way to kick off the Silver Skate Festival! There are three massive snow sculptures for you to enjoy through the festival.

  • See a Fire Sculpture. If you haven’t experienced a fire sculpture, you’re in for a fun night! Through the festival, you can watch the sculptures being created, and at the end of the festival - you can watch them burn!

  • Explore Heritage Village. This village is chock full of experiences for the whole family, from learning about forging to walking through the tipi village and seeing cultural items from Fort Edmonton Park Up Close.

What to Eat & Drink at Silver Skate Festival

Enjoy Cabane a Sucre, mini doughnuts, Squirrely Squirrel Food truck and flip side burgers at the festival. You can bring a water bottle that can be refilled on site, or bring snacks to enjoy from home.

How to Get to Silver Skate Festival

Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park, more commonly known as Laurier Park, is located in Edmonton's west end. Situated on the north bank of the river, the park extends from Whitemud Drive in the west to Buena Vista Drive in the east. The park is named after Canada’s eighth Prime Minister, Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Numerous picnic sites, two natural playgrounds and a boat launch are just a few of the amenities for users to enjoy.

Limited parking is available onsite at the Valley Zoo. Fort Edmonton Park is for overflow parking. There is NO authorized free parking at South Campus. There is a shuttle available on weekends, looping through South Campus Transit Centre (Bay D), Fort Edmonton Park and Laurier Park.
