Let’s Make Birthday Parties Easier with Fiver Birthday Parties

The start of the school season comes with the start of the season of birthday party invitations showing up in backpacks. For children you probably haven’t met, parents are left with the question of how much you should spend on a gift, what to buy, and even where to buy it.

Shopping for birthday gifts is our least favourite activity, and it’s even trickier when you’ve never met the kid, or family. I can’t remember the last time we weren’t scrambling last minute for a gift that was meaningful, didn’t add clutter to the home of the child celebrating the birthday (you’re welcome, parents) and was loved by the child.

Our go-to is books, or a gift card in a reusable water bottle. These are useful, green, don’t add to waste - but they aren’t always the most exciting gifts to give.

Fiver Birthday Parties - The Easiest Trend for Parents

You probably haven’t been to a fiver birthday party. It’s a birthday party where instead of shopping for a gift, or giving a larger amount of money, it’s requested that in lieu of a gift, parents can send five dollars in a card - and it makes it easier for everyone involved.

This makes shopping for a gift easier, makes planning for birthday parties easier and takes the effort out of birthday parties. The child celebrating the birthday makes off with some extra pocket cash to buy something on their Wishlist, the parents don’t have to find room for the hoards of unnecessary toys, game and other knickknacks and the parents of the birthday guests don’t have to put in extra effort trying to find a gift for a child they don’t know.

Hosting a fiver birthday party has benefits for everyone involved and can be a great way to introduce charitable giving to children. Some parents at a Fiver birthday party choose to give half of the five dollars to a charitable cause of the child’s choice.

A fiver birthday party is a great way for parents to reduce the items in our home, reduce the consumerism that our kids are faced with, and provides a greener option for birthday party celebrations in Edmonton.
