The Art of the Brick Exhibit is Coming to TELUS World of Science in May

Starting May 5, The Art of the Brick, the world’s largest display of LEGO art, opens at TELUS World of Science – Edmonton. Millions of LEGO bricks have been used to create over 100 works of art by artist, Nathan Sawaya. This exhibit is a must-see for LEGO fans of all ages and is a fun, and interactive way to explore the popular toy, in a new light. Interactive, and full of intrigue, we had the chance to see the exhibit in Europe this fall and it is one of the experiences our children are still talking about.

“The Art of the Brick reimagines famous artistic masterpieces in LEGO form,” said Alan Nursall, President & CEO, TELUS World of Science – Edmonton. “Visitors of all ages will witness art in a whole new way, while building their own masterpieces through a medium that has captivated and inspired generations.”

In addition to the artist’s original pieces, The Art of the Brick exhibition at TELUS World of Science – Edmonton features interactive & engaging experiences for visitors of all ages including:

  • LEGO Drag Race – build a LEGO brick car & test your creation on different inclines.

  • Six Bricks – how many different objects can you build with only six LEGO DUPLO bricks?

  • Hidden Hands – build a mystery object inside a covered box with only your sense of touch.

  • Free Play – let your imagination run wild with bins of LEGO bricks & no limit to your creativity.

You’ll find the following pieces of LEGO art on display at The Art of the Brick in Edmonton when it arrives to Telus World of Science in May 2023:

  • Fan favourite “Yellow,” a life-size sculpture of a man pulling his chest apart with thousands of yellow LEGO bricks flowing from the cavity.

  • Van Gogh’s Starry Night & Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

  • A multimedia collection of LEGO brick infused photography produced in tandem with award-winning

    photographer Dean West.

While using LEGO bricks as the sole art medium, Sawaya’s ability to conceptualize action, with his devotion to spatial perfection, allows him to elevate a beloved toy into contemporary art.
