Things to do in Edmonton this Weekend with Kids - June 3-5, 2022

The weekend is here and it’s going to be gorgeous outside! If you haven’t planned to spend some time outdoors, work some into your schedule to get out, enjoy the sun, the river valley and the season.

Friday

Get Free Admission to 12+ historical Sites + Museums in Alberta
This weekend, get free access to more than a dozen historical sites and museums in Alberta to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. You can enjoy free admission to places like Royal Tyrrell, Royal Alberta Museum and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village.

All Ages 80s Themed Roller Skate Party
Grab your roller skates or roller blades, dress-up and come skate along to music from the 80s! This event is located in the West Arena, in Ardrossan at Ardrossan Recreation Centre. 

International Children’s Festival of the Arts
The largest festival of its kind in Western Canada and a one-of-a-kind experience, kids also get a chance to sing and dance to world music, listen to stories about faraway places, interact with roving artists, and create their own masterpieces with the help of an array of hands-on Site Activities. And for the tiniest tykes? The festival provides a true a festival-within-a-festival chock-full of puppets, musical performances, family games and more.

Saturday

POP UP Glow in the Dark Yoga
Glow sticks and city views, and the first glow in the dark yoga event of the season. That’s one reason you’re going to want to stay up late on Saturday night. One child/youth is FREE with a paid adult ticket.

Stranger Things Laser Show at Telus World of Science
This weekend, you can celebrate the return of the popular Netflix series with 60 full minutes of 80’s music hits and a laser show that will take you on an adventure into the Upside Down.

The Sheep Return (and there’s a Festival) in Fort Saskatchewan
Every year during the summer, the sheep return to Fort Edmonton Park. This year, there’s a festival to celebrate and you can experience a full morning of family fun.

Catch a Movie at the Drive In
Cub Cinema launches this weekend with the one-day special screening of three movies at Edmonton Expo Centre. You can catch Clueless, The Princess Bride and School of Rock on the big screen.

Glastonbury Family Fun Day
Free for community league members, and $10 for other families, there are plenty of activities to take part in at this outdoor day of fun in Glastonbury.

Inflatables in the Pool at Emerald Hills Leisure Centre
Head over to Emerald Hills and check out the swimming with inflatables in the pool. This event is perfect for younger kids in the family, and included in admission.

Explore Downtown Spark!
Visit Alex Decoteau Park to experience Urban Jungle, a fun and playful art installation by Vignettes. Pop by for a swing on Urban Jungle and let your inner child play. There will also be buskers and food trucks in the area during lunch hour and on select evenings. Saturday night features a free show on the Downtown Spark stage and discover some of Alberta’s best talent.

Landmark Cinemas Kids Day
Every Sunday, it’s Kids Day Out at Landmark Cinemas. Kids can get admission + a snack pack that includes popcorn, a treat and a drink for an all inclusive price of $14. To save even more, regular tickets are discounted for morning admission.

Road Trip! Discovery Canyon Opens for the Season
Discovery Canyon is OPEN for the season on June 1st. The weekend is going to be lovely, weather wise, and it’s the perfect chance to explore and discover with kids. Tubing is free, unless you want to rent a tube - it’s five dollars to rent a tube on-site, from the concession.

Try Ringette for Free!
Join Ringette Canada for a FREE Come Try Ringette For All event – for all abilities! No ringette or skating experience required. We will have plenty of volunteers on and off the ice to support all players. Ringette for All is about community and is designed to empower our athletes by teaching them the core life skills inherent to ringette including: teamwork, communication, resilience and inclusion, all while having fun. Any player, aged 5-18, with a developmental and/or physical challenge is welcome.
