WEEKEND GUIDE: Things to do in Edmonton this Weekend with Kids - February 25-27, 2022

We may be leaving the month of February behind, but that doesn’t mean you’re running out of winter activities and events to experience with the kids this weekend with kids in Edmonton.

Friday

River Valley Recreation Drop-in

Join program leaders on Friday evenings or Saturday and Sunday afternoons for FREE recreational programming at Victoria Park, Rundle Park and Hawrelak Park. Take advantage of our picturesque River Valley setting and enjoy some time outdoors trying a new winter sport or activity. Programming includes snow fort building, snowshoeing, kick sledding, orienteering and hot chocolate by the fire.

Saturday

Play Rangers at City Hall

Play Rangers focuses on children and family participation, with planned special outdoor recreational activities that can be enjoyed by all. Children 6-12 years old are welcome to attend on their own. Starting location will always be the shack at the park and some activities may venture into the community.

Family Glowshoeing - Glow in the Dark Snowshoeing

A guide will take you through the scenic course and illuminated trail. You’ll have to pre-register for the event. Each participant’s name must be entered to secure their spot. All sessions are free courtesy of Strathcona County’s Everybody Gets to Play program. You will enjoy a guided tour while snowshoeing in the dark.

Winter Family Fun Days

Join the community for a winter event celebrating everything winter! Take part in a variety of FREE outdoor activities for the whole family including snow painting, snowshoeing, hot chocolate and much more! Please dress for winter weather.

Cineplex Family Favourites - $2.99

See a $2.99 movie on Saturday morning. Every week at Cineplex, there’s a brand new movie for the whole family to enjoy. It’s best to book your tickets in advance, as it’s the first week the program is back, so it’s bound to be popular. This week, the LEGO Batman movie is playing.

YEG Ice Fest

The first-ever Ice Wall climbing festival at Edmonton Ski Club will include free ice climbing, the chance to try fat biking for free, obstacle course and fun with Mud Sweat and Gears, climbing clinics, SYC Brewing patio takeover, door prizes, food trucks and more.

Playground Grand Opening: Kingsmeade Park

Many of you have already been enjoying the park space – but now it’s time to officially “open” Kingsmeade Park! Join the City and invited guests as we enjoy hot chocolate and treats, family skate time, and other outdoor winter activities in celebration of this brand-new, all-season park space in our community! While there, you can enjoy the St. Albert Public Library mobile trail van!

Skate for Free in Strathcona County

There are there FREE drop-in skating times in Strathcona County, every weekend. Lace up the skates, and grab the kids for a free drop-in skating session on Saturdays or Sundays, and practice on the ice!

Visit the Children’s Gallery

The children’s gallery at Royal Alberta Museum, is back open. It’s a great place to play, and you can plan a time to visit to re-explore the space, this weekend. Plus, if you have a Mammoth membership - it’s a great bang for buck, indoor place to play.

Castledowns Winter Fest

Join the fun, Sunday for CDRS WinterFest by the Castle Downs Park Pavillion. Bring your skates to enjoy the outdoor rink, take in the sleigh ride, and grab a hot chocolate.There’s still time to make your entry for the Great Pallet Parade. Bring your decorated pallet sled with you to enter!
