Weekend Guide: Things to do in Edmonton this Weekend with Kids - November 4-6, 2022

It’s the first weekend of November, and if you’re feeling that post-halloween crash, you’re not alone. This weekend, we’re focusing on getting outside and spending time in nature, with nature walks and adventures. Getting in our hours to spend 1,000 hours outside, and gearing up for what’s going to be a busy holiday season filled with things to do in Edmonton with kids.

Here’s what to do in Edmonton with kids this Weekend

Friday

Take a Lantern Walk at Broadmoor Lake
When
: November 4, 2022
Join in for a for a traditional German lantern craft, then show off your creations during a walk around Broadmoor Lake. First, you can pop by and make the lantern, and then join in for a walk after the craft has been completed.

Take a Guided Nighttime Nature Walk at Whitemud Park
Take a guided walk at Whitemud Park. $30 for a single or $40 for two. The price includes an experienced night walk with Timm and Leanna. We will be walking in the dark looking for some wonderful night creatures that are found in our river valley and not often seen.

Dia De Los Muertos Celerbation
Ballet Mexico Lindo will bring vibrant dances from several Mexico states, with dancers wearing amazing costumes.Mariachi Borealis/ Mundo will participate with a full band and St. Albert young talented vocalist Alexa Leon will sing traditional Latin songs. We will be emotional with the character of Miguelito from the family movie Coco performed by the youg talent Matias Perez Hernandez singing four songs from that movie. Also will be a Dia de los Muertos/ Coco costumes and make up contest!! Come to participate and enjoy this family event.

Saturday

City of Edmonton Play Rangers
Play Rangers focuses on children and family participation, with planned special outdoor recreational activities that can be enjoyed by all. Children aged 6-12 can attend the event on their own, and take part in outdoor and nature focused programming like orienteering, fire building and nature games. Fall Play Rangers will run on Saturdays, September 17 to December 31, from noon-6pm at a variety of districts and River Valley Park locations.Visit the Website

Smash Your Pumpkin at Compost School
Bring and smash your Halloween pumpkins at Compost School! This a FREE, family fun event where you can smash Halloween Jack-o-Lanterns in a variety of ways. While you’re there, learn how to turn them to compost. Make sure your pumpkin is free of debris and accessories (paint is okay). In 2019, there were 500+ pumpkins smashed! Let’s see if the community can smash that goal this year.

Learn to Make Crepes
If you love eating Crêpes but don't know how to make them, here's your chance to learn! Spend the evening with Kathryn Joel and learn to make both Savoury and Sweet Crêpes following French tradition.

‘Try it’ Sports Day in St. Albert

: November 5, 2022
The City of St. Albert is excited to present its annual Sports Day and showcase all the amazing sports opportunities available in our community. Children can try sports like BMX racing, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, ringette, rugby and more. Parents can meet with and learn more about more than twenty local sports organizations.

Exchange Your Costume at a Costume Swap
Spend your Saturday exchanging your halloween costumes, and even Halloween decor at this costume swap at Sherbrooke Community League. It’s a great chance to trade in costumes for next year, or score a new piece of Halloween decor!

Pumpkin Drop at the Fire Station
Join Emergency Services for a pumpkin drop for Muscular Dystrophy. For a donation, residents can drop their old pumpkins from the fourth floor of the hose tower at Fire Station 6. Please park in the lot on the west side of the station. Drop your pumpkins, have a refreshment, chat with the newest members of the department, get up close and explore a fire truck, grab a selfie with Sparky Cash or credit card donations are accepted on-site for Muscular Dystrophy.

Climb the Wibit in the Pool at MacEwan Wellness
On the first Saturday of the month during the drop-in swim time, you’ll find the inflatable Wibit in the pool in Edmonton. It’s a fun swim time for the older kids, and younger kids, while they scale the obstacle course in the pool.

Sunday

Make a FREE Craft at Michaels
Visit your local Michaels store to make a FREE craft with the kids. Visit in-store and paint a free ornament! We will have several designs to choose from OR make a design all your own! No registration needed, you can drop in between 2-4pm on Sunday to take part in the craft.
