WEEKEND GUIDE: Things to do in Edmonton this Weekend with Kids - October 14-16, 2022

Fall is here and we’re in the height of Halloween excitement. This weekend, we’re ramping up the fall festivals, with a fall harvest festival at the Alberta Train museum, and giving you plenty of options to get outside with the kids.

Here’s what to do in Edmonton this weekend with kids:

Friday

Baby Boo Family Halloween Event (All Weekend)
Thrills and Delights, you’re not going to want to miss this family friendly Halloween event at the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum. The festival is the next two weekends, until Halloween, and features creative craft, a Ghostly Tour of the historical site, Halloween Hall - highlighting family Halloween movies, fun Fall Photo Ops. Ticket includes all of the above activities. Hayrides, Train rides, pumpkin slingshot and wild your own scarecrow are available at an add-on cost.

Lakeland Haunted House is OPEN
Lakeland Haunted House opens for the season, this weekend. It’s a perfect low-level scare but still thrilling enough for the older kids, this Halloween. Visit and bring a food bank or pet donation with you, and it’s a low-cost way to kick off spooky season with the kids.

Saturday

Join a FREE Nature Program (Children aged 3-12)
Nature provides endless opportunities to enhance a child's development by building on self-awareness, language, and critical thinking skills. Your family is invited to join us for activities and exploration to enrich our connection with nature. Saturday Morning $2 Swim at Leduc Recreation Centre
Venture to a new indoor pool and try something new for a Saturday morning swim. You can swim at Leduc Recreation Centre for only $2 per person between 9am and noon! Early rising will pay off for this morning out! Children two and under are free.

Home Depot Kids Workshop
The Home Depot kids workshops are back and it’s your chance to take the kids for a FREE session to build in-store on Saturday morning. Registration is required, and you can register for a session at your local store, right here.

Beaumont Firehall Open House and Free BBQ
This weekend, get an up close look and tour the Beaumont Firehall during the open house. There’s also a free BBQ so you won’t have to worry about making lunch. Get out there and enjoy that gorgeous fall weather while you still can, and explore a firehouse while you’re at it! Between 11 and 2, you can try on fire gear, take part in carnival games, visit the photo booth and enjoy the tours, and behind the scene look inside the firetruck.

Join a FREE Crafting Session at Toys R Us
Join the fun at your local Toys R Us store, in the run-up to Halloween for awesome, eerie arts + crafts activities! This Saturday, there is a Pumpkin Paper Plate activity planned, and you can pop by the store to make yours for the morning session (11am) or the afternoon session (2pm).

Alberta Prairie Railway Fall Festival
At the festival, guests are invited to join us on one of four special experiences. Includes selecting very own pumpkin from our patch, hot chocolate and cookies, a burger or hot dog, family friendly activities, and much more. One of the featured attractions on this excursion is Finnegan Farms Petting Zoo. Be sure to check it out.

Make Your Own Bath Bomb at LUSH
Visit the LUSH location at West Edmonton Mall this Saturday to press your own Mummy bath bomb. It’s a fun way to take part in the process if you were planning on buying a bath bomb anyway, and our kids loved the holiday themed bombs. No registration is required, you’ll just have to stop by the WEM Lush location between noon and three o’clock.

Pop up Parade by Festival in a Box
Festival in a Box pop-up parade is marching into the community of Sakaw with roving artists and musicians for an afternoon of family-friendly fun. The parade starts at 1:00 pm with a final performance at Sakaw Gardens at 3:30. Sponsored by Edmonton Arts Council who will be providing a map of the route to be on Social Media shortly.

Sunday

Sunday Makebreak at Michaels
Visit your local Michaels store, every Sunday, for rotating crafts that the kids can create for free. This no-cost activity usually takes between fifteen minutes and an hour, and rotates seasonally with new crafts every single week. This week, kids can make a fun Trick or Treat wall hanging. No registration is required, you can show up to the store at one of the designated make break times and create your craft.

Visit Kiwi’s Haunted House
Are you ready for a spooktacular Halloween? Join us for our annual Kiwi’s Haunted House! Come to the nursery and see our trail system and growing house transformed for this eerily good time. Are YOU brave enough to walk through our trails? Let’s hope you’re not scared of the dark… For the haunted house, you can pre-purchase your tickets online or you can get them at the door!

Grand Opening of Ice District Plaza
ICE District and OEG Sports and Entertainment are excited to announce the official grand opening of ICE District Plaza on Saturday, October 15.
