It’s a gorgeous fall weekend, and we’ve got you covered for the best things to do with kids in Edmonton - all weekend long. Our plan this weekend? Kick off the spooky season, see a pop up magic show, and try out the tallest slide in Edmonton area at one of our new favourite Edmonton playgrounds.

Visit Dark at Fort Edmonton Park
It’s that time of year again! Dark at Fort Edmonton Park returns with three brand new haunts, and your chance to kick off spooky season early, with haunts every weekend until Halloween. At Dark, you can expect food, drinks, and live music, along with the three traditional haunted houses that our team feels are ‘older kid friendly’.

See a Pop-up Secret Magic Show
This weekend, catch a pop up, secret magic show with Chris Gowen. Tickets are only $25, and the show is suitable for kids from the ages of 8. It’s an incredible hour of slight of hand and magic, that you’re not going to want to miss, and tickets are on sale now.

Take an Edmonton Ghost Tour
A ghostly walk through Old Strathcona, where we stop in front of the Strathcona Hotel, the Princess Theatre, the Strathcona High School and many other buildings, houses, and shops that have reported ghosts, hauntings, murders, and mysteries. They are all true stories that come from area residents and business owners. The tours are hosted by a veteran storyteller with 12 years of experience. Held all summer long, the tours are a great outing for the whole family. The Old Strathcona Ghost Tour is 1 hour long.

Drop-in for City of Edmonton Play Rangers at a Local Playground
City of Edmonton Play Rangers is a rotating program at local playgrounds, led by engaging youth instructors to get kids outside! In addition to fun group programming and meeting new kids, kids will learn things like orienteering, fire making, and take part in playground games.

Inflatable Obstacle Course in the Pool at Emerald Hills
Visit Emerald Hills for our favourite little-kid friendly inflatables in the pool. This one is a skip if you’re looking for a thrilling experience for older kids, and better suited towards the under seven crowd, because of the smaller scale of the inflatable. That being said, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon hanging out in the pool with your younger crowd of kids.

Diwali Fair at Millwoods Town Centre
Diwali Fair is one of the ways to let people celebrate the joyous festival of Diwali in the best of spirits and enhance the feeling of harmony and brotherhood in the society. Diwali Bazaar will showcase Indian culture where stalls of pottery, home décor, sweets, Pooja (prayer) material, fashion, jewelry, henna painting etc.

This weekend, catch a classic on the big screen with the whole family. It’s $2.99 screening of ‘The Goonies’ and a cheap way to bring the kids to the theatre, and enjoy a classic with them.

Learn some Lightsaber Moves at Toys R Us (Or make a Turkey Craft)
Bring your padawans in-store to learn legendary lightsaber moves: kids can engage in pretend duels to hone their Jedi powers, get a personalized certificate to certify their Jedi Knight status AND take home fun activity sheets, too! There’s also a fun make break activity craft being offered in store, with a morning and afternoon session to choose from.

Last Weekend to Get FREE Admission to UofA Botanical Garden
Children will receive free admission to UofA Botanical Garden this month, until October 10, 2022. It’s the perfect time to explore the fall leaves, climb a castle in the garden, visit the pond and see the gorgeous seasonal changes happening in the garden before it opens for the holidays.

Take Part in Owl Banding at Beaver Hill Observatory
This annual fall migration of owls occurs from September until early November, with October being the peak in their abundance. Species captured include Northern Saw-whet Owls, Long-eared Owls and Boreal Owls. Join our biologists for an evening in the woods to learn about the research being conducted on our feathery friends and hopefully see a live owl up close and personal!

Landmark Cinemas Kids Day Out

Come in store and make a spooky necklace or keychain perfect for Halloween. This event is free - and it’s a fun way to celebrate Halloween with the kids, without breaking the bank. The activities don’t take too long, and you can pop by your local Michaels store between 2-4 pm to make your own.
