WEEKEND GUIDE: Things to do in Edmonton this Weekend with Kids - September 16-18

This weekend brings the launch of the first Gateway to the Stars event, where you can explore Elk Island’s Dark Sky Preserve, Community Day here in Edmonton where you can explore your, and neighbouring, communities, and even the chance to catch a movie on the big screen, outdoors in Edmonton. Get out there, and enjoy those last few days of warm weather.

Friday

Gateway to the Stars at Elk Island National Park
Experience the wonder of Elk Island's night sky. In the heart of the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve, escape the city to gaze upon the countless stars in our galaxy and learn to navigate from one constellation to the next. Campfire and a friendly park interpreter are included.

Grand Opening of the Arctic Journey at TELUS World of Science
This Weekend, TELUS World of Science opens up the latest exhibit! Celebrate the final phase of the Aurora Project with the grand opening of Arctic Journey Exhibition. Starting at 10:00 a.m. on September 17 and 18 the first sixty-five children under 6 years old through the doors will receive a FREE lab coat, souvenir magnet and button! Kids can chill out with a FREE glitter tattoo, games and treats from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Outdoor Movie and Carnival Fundraiser
Join the fun and fundraising! Soraya Hafez School and the Playground Committee are hosting a family carnival with games, crafts, and animal fun, and more! Followed by an outdoor screening of Sing 2.

FallOWeen Pumpkin Patch Harvest Festival
Come to a wee bit spooky fall harvest pumpkin patch at the Prairie Gardens farm on Weekends starting mid-September! Due to new Sturgeon County Regulations, they will be limiting attendance to only 25 families (100 guests) PER DAY for small scale consumer visitations to purchase a farm pumpkin. It's the perfect time to pick your fall pumpkin, get an amazing pumpkin patch photo, solve a corn maze and have fun with the whole family!

City of Edmonton Play Rangers: Fall Edition
City of Edmonton is bringing back Play Rangers for the fall. Find Play Rangers at community park locations throughout the city every Saturday from September 17 to December 31, 2022, for FREE fun for youth around the city. Every Saturday, kids can take part in playground games, orienteering, scavenger hunts, shelter building, snowshoeing and fire building at a new local playground.

Watch the Greatest Showman Outdoors!
The Summer SolstICE event series continues in ICE District Plaza with the third and final Immersive Cinema Experience (ICE) of the season, presented by Global Edmonton. The screening will take place on Saturday, September 17 with the acclaimed musical drama The Greatest Showman.

Kids get FREE Admission to UofA Botanical Garden
It’s the last month to take advantage of the free admission for kids at University of Alberta Botanic Garden. Kids can get free admission to the gardens. Visit the gardens for FREE with children (adult admission in regular price) and it’s the perfect time to explore the Aga Khan, the pond, and wander through the landscape.
