6 Charitable Ways to Give Back with Your Kids this Holiday Season - 2021

Today, we’re sharing six ways that you can give back this holiday season with your kids. It’s as easy as picking up an extra snack next time you head to the grocery store, or as in depth as sponsoring a Christmas hamper - there are many ways to give back this holiday season.

Stocking Stuffers for Seniors

You’ve got a couple of weeks left to take part in Stocking Stuffers for Seniors, by London Drugs. This program is created to give stockings to local seniors. You can choose a tag from the tree at one of the London Drugs locations, and pick up stocking stuffers, and drop them off back at the store. Pick up a tag at your local store and then choose stocking stuffers (there’s a small Wishlist on the tag) and drop the stocking stuffers back off to the London Drugs location that you picked up from before December 8, 2021.

Deliver a Hamper with The Christmas Bureau

You can register now to be matched with a family via the Hamper delivery program at the Christmas Bureau. The program delivers hampers to families in need, and you can spend an afternoon shopping for items to fill the hamper, like a gift for the family members, and food for the hamper. Though you can register now, matches are not made until November 29, 2021.

Little Santas - Gifts for Single Moms

This year, give back with a gift for local Moms. Kaleo Collective is rounding up gifts for kids in single-mom families to give to their Moms this holiday season. As part of the initiative, kids can visit and choose a gift for their mother, and leave with a gingerbread house and a take and bake meal. Gifts are being accepted at Multiple locations, and you can drop off until December 11, when kids can visit Santa’s workshop to pick out a gift for their mom.

Donate Warm Clothing for the Bissell Centre

Find warm clothing in your home that no one is wearing, ask for warm clothing donations from family, from friends, and shop the sale section to find some affordable warm clothing that you can donate. Clothing donations for our unhoused community members will help to keep them warm this winter, and you can drop off donations directly at Bissell Centre.

Donate Toys to the Family Gift Centre

The Family Gift Centre is an initiative created by the Mustard Seed for families facing hardship, this season. At the Gift centre, you can donate new toys that will be put into the shop, to empower every family to put presents under the tree this holiday season. Last year, 2,300 caregivers and parents were empowered with a visit to the shop, where they can purchase a gift for only $2. New toy donations, gift cards, and monetary donations are being accepted until December 1, 2021.

Donate to Edmonton Food Bank

The easiest way to donate this season is to donate to Edmonton Food Bank. You can pick up a couple of extra items while you shop at your local grocery store, or even have your kids choose some of their favourite snacks or items to donate on the way out of the grocery store. You can drop it right off in the same trip, and it’s an easy, an inexpensive way to give all through the year - especially through the holiday season.

Finding ways to give back this holiday season is as easy as choosing as one of the items on this list, or as simple as taking part in twelve days of kindness, in your own community - completing kind tasks for your neighbours. What are some of the ways that you’re showing charity this season in Edmonton?
